The Scarcity Trap—The Cage You Can’t See - (Part 1)
I know what the scarcity mindset looks like.
I know what it feels like.
I can see it, smell it, and sense it a mile away.
Because I used to live in it.
When I owned my gym, I wanted to be the best—the best trainer, the best gym owner. I wanted my gym to succeed more than anything.
But there was one problem…
I was afraid to let go.
I was afraid to delegate.
I was afraid to open up and share the responsibility.
And beyond that?
I was afraid of other gyms taking my clients and my profits.
I wanted people to love my gym and hate every other gym.
Which, looking back, is crazy.
Because one of my goals was (and still is) to help people become better, healthier, stronger versions of themselves.
So, in reality?
I shouldn’t have cared who they trained with or where they went—only that they were making progress.
And what’s even crazier?
I failed to see that growth begets growth.
I failed to see that even if they didn’t train with me, I could still benefit—because the more people who committed themselves to getting into shape, the more the fitness industry would grow.
And the bigger the industry got, the more demand there would be for gyms and trainers—thus, my business would grow too.
In other words, I failed to see that…
👉 A rising tide lifts all boats.
👉 I failed to see that success could be shared and even grown to unimaginable heights.
But I’ll get more into that later…
First, let’s talk about the scarcity mindset—what it is, how it works, and why most people don’t even realize they have it.
What Is the Scarcity Mindset?
Scarcity mindset is when you believe there’s not enough to go around.
Not enough time.
Not enough money.
Not enough love, success, or opportunity—especially for you.
It sounds like this:
❌ “If they win, I lose.”
❌ “There’s only room for a few at the top.”
❌ “If someone else gets ahead, I fall behind.”
❌ “Success is rare—and I probably missed my shot.”
It turns life into a competition.
A game of survival.
Where everyone’s fighting over scraps from the same limited pile.
But here’s the thing—
The types of people who suffer from the scarcity mindset isn’t always obvious.
In fact, some of the most “successful” people you know are stuck in scarcity thinking.
Most people think a scarcity mindset only applies to those who are broke or desperate.
But the truth is: Scarcity doesn’t care how much money you make.
It’s alive and well in people who look successful on the outside but are secretly holding on for dear life.
It looks like:
➡️ The business owner who won’t delegate because “no one else can do it like I can.”
➡️ The leader who won’t train their team properly because they’re afraid of being replaced.
➡️ The person who keeps their knowledge to themselves because they fear competition.
➡️ The friend who gets jealous when someone else succeeds because they see it as a threat.
They might look successful on the surface, but inside, they’re gripping tightly to control—afraid to let go, afraid to lose, afraid that if others shine, their light will dim.
And it makes sense…
Because this mindset is wired into us.
The Evolutionary Root of Scarcity
Scarcity mindset is natural—it’s built into our DNA.
Our ancestors lived in harsh conditions.
If the tribe down the river killed the buffalo first, your tribe didn’t eat.
Resources were limited, and survival depended on outcompeting others.
But here’s the problem…
We don’t live in that world anymore.
We live in a world of abundance.
Opportunities are everywhere.
Success isn’t taken—it’s created.
We don’t have to compete for scraps—we can build more.
But if that’s true…
👉 Why do so many people stay stuck in scarcity thinking?
👉 And more importantly—how do you break free?
That’s what we’ll dive into in Part 2.
🔥 Stay tuned for the next email—where I’ll show you exactly how to shift into an abundance mindset and start creating more success, freedom, and impact.
